Yes. Every deck we build comes with our own workmanship guarantee, so if the structure moves, a board lifts or anything fails because of how it was put together, we return and put it right. The work is carried out to the Scottish Building Standards, and before we hand the deck over we walk it through with you, checking the frame, the fixings, the steps and the stability underfoot so you can be sure it has been built properly.

The materials carry their own manufacturer warranties, and those sit alongside our workmanship cover rather than replacing it. The C24 timber sub-frames are pressure treated with guaranteed protection against rot and insect attack, and the composite boards come with long manufacturer guarantees against warping and fading, so as long as they are installed the way we fit them, you are covered on both the structure and the surface.

The support structure matters just as much as the surface boards. A properly built treated timber joist subframe, fixed with corrosion-resistant stainless or galvanised deck screws and set to true levels, is what keeps a deck solid underfoot. If the frame, fixings, or support points are not right, the deck can start to move, feel bouncy, or wear out much sooner than it should.

The timescale depends on the size of the deck, the height and layout, access to the garden, and whether steps or other linked garden work are included. A straightforward deck can be completed more quickly than a larger build with level changes and extra detailing.

The total cost depends on whether treated softwood, premium hardwood, or capped composite boards are chosen. Composite options have a higher upfront cost but require no ongoing maintenance, whereas softwood is more economical initially. We give a detailed price after measuring the garden.

C24 is a premium grade of structural timber with fewer knots and a denser grain than standard C16 wood. We use C24-grade treated timber for our main structural deck frames because it handles higher weight loads and spans wider gaps without bending or sagging over time.

Standard ground-level decks rarely require planning permission. However, if the platform sits more than three hundred millimetres above the ground, covers more than half the garden area, or affects the privacy of neighbours, planning permission may be needed before construction begins.

We use pressure-treated structural timbers designed for ground contact and coat all cut ends with wood preservative on site. We also apply protective joist tape across the top of the framework to prevent rainwater from pooling in screw holes, and ensure there is a clear ventilation gap beneath the deck.

No outdoor surface is completely non-slip when covered in ice or wet leaves, but the anti-slip decking boards we fit feature deep moulded textures that give good grip compared with older products, which matters through wet Scottish winters. Keeping the surface clear of organic debris prevents algae growth, which is the main cause of slipperiness in wet conditions.
